Project Consultant

This position will support the leadership of a federal agency, including policy analysis, report writing, and supporting the overall mission of the agency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide program coordination support services to plan, develop and implement agency programmatic requirements and special initiatives
  • Assist in the development of Reports to Congress, Departmental requests, and other ad hoc writing and communications materials
  • Edit Congressional Reports, manuals, funding announcements, and other major documents for publication to ensure consistency
  • Review and model data to develop useful and actionable information to support and inform decision making
  • Provide assistance and guidance in the design of new programs, enhancement of existing programs, and maintenance of existing programs along with collaborative solutions to address social and economic issues in Native American communities
  • Serve as a liaison between multiple government agencies, and attend intergovernmental meetings to help discuss priorities, identify partnerships and report back to senior leadership
  • Assist in identifying priorities and partnerships, and then implementing action plans
  • Prepare responses to inquiries for specific data and information
  • Facilitate communications with stakeholders through notices, newsletters and phone calls
  • Assist in categorizing and filing resources and reference materials
  • Draft talking points, PowerPoints, briefing papers, press releases, testimony, newsletter articles, blogs, and other materials
  • Support administrative functions of the Commissioner, and Deputy Commissioner including, maintaining organization files and scheduling and staffing meetings and conference calls
  • Support special projects as needed, such as development of written materials, lessons-learned documentation, and resource guides for grantees

  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and deliver quality results under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work both individually and in a team environment
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Experience with Web communications, HTML, and social media preferred

Education and Experience:

  • Experience working with distressed communities, especially American Indian/Alaska Native communities strongly preferred;
  • Experience supporting senior-level clients or leadership
  • Experience in grants, technical assistance, and/or policy advocacy preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Communications, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 2 – 4 years of related experience in public relations, policy, or technical writing and editing
